Cobalt Powers- the Beginning
The hot July sun beat heavily down upon the concrete and glass of the busy downtown city. Tall office buildings stood reaching up towards the sky around a busy circle around road with flowing fountain at the center. As usual, the sidewalks managed to somehow contain the swarm of people and the honking of agitated drivers filled the busy atmosphere. This was Veilstone City.
If you scanned carefully through the sea of activity, a boy with dull, dark blue hair might have caught your curious gaze. He wore and old, beaten, probably dirty white graphic hoodie and dark jeans that were in about the same condition as his hoodie. All in all, he looked like your average raggedy high school student. Carefully he weaved through the crowd into a side alleyway. A dead end. From the darkness of the alleyway he looked back at the busy sidewalk. Good. No pursuers.
"Found you!" called a playful voice and giggle from within the alley. The boy wheeled around and gritted his teeth. Sitting cross-legged on a trashcan was a girl with short, light-blond hair. Her bright lemon colored summer dress contrasted greatly with the dank alley. Her scarf matched the bright pink color of her eyes. "You will tell me where you hid that pretty orb, right Cobalt?"
"No." A sudden draft whisked through the dank alley sending Cobalt's hair whipping around his impassive face.
The girl frowned. Yellow electricity crackled through her short hair. "You're a part of the group, Cobalt. We are humans with pokemon powers. We have a mission. Now please hand over the Light Orb before I get angry."
"Sorry Neon, bit I was a part of the group. I've realized the true nature of Team Solstice's goal. Radon claims that he's going to 'make the world a better place', but nothing good can come out of Team Solstice having control over the entire world. All Radon will cause is terror and-"
"SHUT UP!" Neon's snarl of rage stopped Cobalt in his tracks. "How dare you insult the leader!" All of Neon's former playful demeanor had disappeared, scared away by her seething rage. She raised her hand and with a biting crackle, a bolt of lightening hit Cobalt in the chest.
With a sharp intake of breath, Cobalt fell to his knees. The gritty concrete bore into the palms of his hands. His breath now came out in ragged gasps. Suddenly the temperature plummeted and a swirling cloud of snow and ice began to swirl around Cobalt's kneeling form like a wall. The narrow alleyways was a bad place to fight, but what other choice did Cobalt have if this continued?
Neon gritted her teeth. It was surprising how such a cutely dressed girl could look so fierce. "Radon found you on a street corner and took you in, and this is the thanks you give him? Filthy deserter!" A large amount of electricity gathered and condensed into Neon's body. With a sadistic grin, she discharged the pent up electricity at Cobalt's kneeling, silhouetted form. A bright flash and Cobalt's defensive blizzard was no more. Neon took a step forward and suddenly crashed to the ground.
"Hehe! I tripped!" giggled Neon as she pushed herself onto her elbows. "Owie... what was that...? Hey! Don't roll your eyes at me, mister!" Wondering what had tripped her, Neon looked at her feet. "Eh? Where did that grass suddenly sprout from?" She grinned and a shot of sparks flew upwards toward the roof of one building. Cobalt covered his head with his arms as brick and concrete came raining down. As Neon attempted to rise to her feet, green vines pounced out from the ground and caught her wrist.
Cobalt let out a sigh of relied as more and more vines bound Neon and a figure with light green hair wearing a plaid shirt and tight jeans came falling from above. "Glad you came, Lead," Cobalt welcomed as the figure landed in a crouch a few feet away. He winced as Lead's hand whacked him none too gently on the head.
"I thought I told you to call me Plumbum," Lead stated with an odd, scolding expression. By now Neon was rendered immobile and silenced by the vines that tightly bound her arms, legs, hands, feet, and mouth.
Suddenly realizing something out of the ordinary, Cobalt stated, "It's too quiet... what happened to all the pedestrians?"
Lead winked. "No need to worry. Thanks to Cesium, they're asleep and out of harm's way. Things should be all right and dandy and back to normal in about an hour. We had it all prepared in case you actually started to fight, haha!"He put his hands on his hips and let out a sigh of satisfaction. "Well, we wouldn't want to keep old Tungsten waiting... Lets hurry up and get to the rendezvous. You're probably really annoyed now after having to deal with Neon's sudden mood swings, haha.
Cobalt grunted acknowledgement and with that, he followed Lead out of the alleyway feeling Neon's gaze burning into his back.
